Creating a map - Linking Excel Table to Illustrator for the purpose of labeling POIS
I'm working on a map with 40+ points of interest. I have a corresponding excel table that has a number to represent the POI and the name of the POI. In the AI file with the map, I have a symbol with a number in it to mark the POI. Is there a way to connect these two so that as new POI's are added, I can update the excel table and the map will update to reflect the excel table? I'm having to add new POI's frequently and the list of POI's needs to be in alphabetical order. My current workflow is to update the excel table and manually re-label the map which is time consuming and a huge potential for error.
Unfortunately the POI's do not have any attribute information - they're just generic points that are being marked on a map and sent to me to include on the map.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Thank you for your post and questions!
Sounds like one of the key issues is frequent manual updating via addition and assigning attribute data to an excel table, that could be better with some form of automation perhaps. Your workflow as of now does seem solid, but as you say does run the risk of being time consuming and having a huge potential for error. If you are able to send as the spreadsheet, and an example of the generic points that are being marked on a map and sent to you to include on the map - perhaps there's a pattern or a potential workflow there can be sped up.
