The MAP Basemap Styling panel can be accessed via the Thematic Tools section of the MAPublisher Toolbar. Select the "MAP Basemap Styling" icon on the toolbar to open the panel. Alternatively, this option can be accessed from the menu by clicking on "Window" > "MAPublisher" > "MAP Basemap Styling".
MAP Basemap Styling requires at least one Basemap Layer to view properly.
MAP View
Use this drop-down menu to select a MAP View containing at least one Vector Basemap layer to configure the current styling. In the MAP Views panel, Vector Basemap layers can be distinguished from regular MAP Layers by their icons:
Batch Add MAP Basemap Stylesheets
The Batch Add MAP Basemap Stylesheets action can be applied either by clicking the button at the bottom of the panel or from the panel menu. This action will create an empty basemap stylesheet for each basemap layer in the MAP View that does not already have a basemap stylesheet created for it.
If all of the basemap layers in the MAP View already have a corresponding basemap stylesheet created for them, then no new basemap stylesheets will be added. For example, if the Style that was selected was not "None" within the "Import Vector Basemaps" dialog, if all Basemap Layers in the imported Vector Basemap were stylized, either by the Avenza Default Service Style, or a custom Basemap Style, then "Batch Add Map Basemap Stylesheets" would not add any Stylesheets, assuming the Style had stylized every Basemap Layer that was imported.
Edit Stylesheet
Found by clicking and viewing the Options menu, the Edit Stylesheet lists the stylesheets used to style basemap layers. The basemap stylesheet feature type is indicated by the stylesheet icon colour:
With a basemap stylesheet highlighted, click the Edit Stylesheet button within the options menu to open the Edit Stylesheet Theme dialog for the selected stylesheet. In the Edit Stylesheet Theme dialog, highlight any of the existing rules to view or edit the Rule Expression, and/or Visual Properties. Once the desired edits have been made, click OK to save the changes.
As of MAPublisher 11.5, users can now also perform "Batch Generate Rules" and "Batch Edit Rules" with MAP Basemap Stylesheets as well. The two Options functions effectively the same as they do within MAP Stylesheets. For further details regarding "Batch Generate Rules" and "Batch Edit Rules", please refer to this Help article here: Stylesheet Themes.
Export MAP Basemap Stylesheets to Basemap Style
Once all stylesheet edits are complete, and you wished to save all the Stylesheets as their own Basemap Style for future use, select the "Export MAP Basemap Stylesheets to Basemap Style". Within the Save Basemap Style As dialog box, name the custom stylesheet template and click Save.
Basemap styles are saved as Adobe Illustrator (.ai) files in the following directories:
Windows: C:\ProgramData\Avenza\MAPublisher\Custom Basemap Styles
MacOS: /Applications/Avenza/MAPublisher 11.4/MAPublisher Plug-in/Custom Basemap Styles
Saved basemap styles can be accessed in the Import Vector Basemaps dialog or in the Options menu within the MAP Basemap Styling panel, by clicking on "Manage Basemap Styles".
Apply New Basemap Style
In the Options menu, select the Apply New Basemap Style Action. From this window, the default Avenza Default Service Style, as well as other saved custom basemap styles can be selected. Once a Basemap Style has been chosen, click OK to apply it to the existing basemap layers in the chosen MAP View.
The “Remove unstyled layers" option will remove any Layers that are not styled in the new Basemap Style, and the "Delete unstyled art” option will remove any art that is not styled in the new Basemap Style.
Manage Basemap Styles
In the Options menu, you can manage your saved basemap styles by selecting the Manage Basemap Styles option. The drop-down will display any saved basemap styles that you have on your machine and allow you to rename them with the pencil button, or delete them with the delete button. Once you have made your changes, click OK to close the dialog. This dialog will only be accessible when you have a saved basemap style.
